Performance review by Ben Cox
Sexy (I hope my wife’s not reading!), Soulful, and Sensational is all have to say about these three ladies. Their performance as the headliners for the first night of the Nothing But the Blues Festival was a great exclamation point on an otherwise beautiful evening for all the blues anyone could handle.
On tour supporting their newest release, Time Bomb on Ruf Records, the ladies exploded into the crowd’s ears with the title track instrumental to start the show. The old adage of “Do they play as good as they look?” was answered with a definite standing ovation in favor at the end of the first tune. The youngest and on her first tour of the United States, Roxanne Potvin took the mic first with all three ladies still on stage for the sassy “Hitting On Nothing” for the next track, which was met with equal ..... For someone new to the Blues, or new to Bobby Rush, this CD could be a good starting place. As the title Raw implies (as well as the cover photo of him barely covered), the music is performed in stripped down fashion almost completely by Rush himself.
In the Blues world, Rush is a giant with a career spanning decades. His full band live shows are legendary for read-deal blues, earthy good humor, and the dancing booty-girls. Now, imagine all the trappings gone leaving only Rush with acoustic guitar, harmonica, stomping feet for rhythm, and singing. That approach recapitulates the earliest bluesmen: solo and acoustic with just the human voice communicating deep feelings.CLICK HERE to read more of this review

Microwave Dave Gallaher is a musical veteran who’s been
plugging away as a slide guitarist since before a lot of the newer guys who are
heaping up a lot of success on blues radio were even born. Gallaher is steeped
in the traditions of the Deep South and Chicago. He has a laundry list of folks
he’s had the pleasure of playing with and has the chops to show for it.
Recorded live at the 2nd Street Music Hall in Gadsden, Alabama in April, August, and November 2005, this 12-song set is loud, raucous, great party music that will find you tapping your feet along to the beat. Dave’s band, the Nukes are about as in the pocket as you get, and for the power-trio set up, they are about as solid as CLICK HERE to read more of this review
